Rina Zhi Liu, L. Ac.
Women's Health, Pain Management, Primary Care, Nutrition

Having immigrated to the US from the plains of Inner Mongolia, I come from a multicultural background. I got my first degree from China's University of Political Science and Law, then went on to practice law in Beijing for seven years. After moving to the US, I studied at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and worked as a chef for nine years, eventually taking my career to the five-star Marriott Hotel.

But I wanted to pursue a career that I could do for the rest of my life, so I went to the University of East-West Medicine and became a licensed acupuncturist. There is a reason I have always loved learning- no knowledge is ever wasted. Even my vastly different jobs have their intersections in health and medicine; my experience as a chef gives me a unique perspective on nutrition and herbal supplements, and my experience as a lawyer gives me a multifaceted approach to forming diagnoses. Learning is a lifelong process, and I firmly believe in that.

As an acupuncturist, knowledge gathered over centuries of Traditional Chinese Medicine has fallen upon me to relearn. Such is the reason I believe I will continue on this path for the rest of my life- I have always thought of curing illness as a divine servitude, and admired those who help people live better, healthier lives. Now, I have picked up the red cross. The path is arduous, but that has never stopped me before.

Summer Xia, L. Ac., MTCM
Women's Health, Mental Health, Pain Management, Primary Care, Nutrition

During my time as a successful businesswoman back in China, I have learned to become a quick thinker and problem solver. Despite fierce competition and volatile market demand, I have been able to overcome obstacles and find effective solutions. Although it was very satisfying being a business owner and leader, I kept thinking back to my dream of becoming a doctor.

After deliberating between life in business versus medicine, I finally chose to study traditional Chinese medicine, following in my grandfather's footsteps as a great acupuncturist. During my acupuncture studies, I successfully treated patients with various mental conditions. I treated patients with depression and anxiety, as well as children with autism. Seeing their improvement with acupuncture inspired me to further focus on and explore how acupuncture and Chinese medicine can benefit patients with these conditions, and similar ones.
