What is Chinese medicine?

Chinese medicine is a complete medical system that has been diagnosing, treating. and even preventing illnesses for more than 5,000 years. In recent years, Chinese medicine has also been of great impact to the peoples of western countries because more and more people, afraid of the side-effects of chemical pills and surgeries, are turning to Chinese medicine to seek its natural healing effects.

Chinese medicine has its own theoretical system which considers a human being an inseparable part of nature. Whenever illness occurs to a human being, it can be defined as an imbalance of Yin (symbolized by the Moon, earth, night, cold, winter, dampness, inner, body...) and Yang (symbolized by the Sun, heaven, day, hot, dryness, outer, mind...), or it can be attributed to the blockage of Qi and Blood in the meridians, which are like rivers in nature. In Chinese medicine, doctors either use needles to puncture the points of the body or prescribe herbs to open the blockage of Qi and Blood and restore the balance of Yin and Yang. Chinese medicine also includes other modalities like Tui Na (massage), dietetics and Qigong.
